The Security Council of the Capital City of Prague discussed the current situation regarding the wave of migration caused by the war conflict in Ukraine, especially the possibilities of capacity accommodation, education and the provision of health care in the territory of Prague. At the same time, it was stated that it is necessary to maintain winter measures for homeless people in the territory of the metropolis. Vít Hofman, the spokesperson of the municipality, informed about it.
In Prague, after the restoration of tourism, the available accommodation capacity for emergencies has been reduced, and the accommodation capacity for emergency accommodation of refugees has been exhausted.
It is necessary to preserve the free capacity of two to three percent for unexpected situations of dealing with transfers of accommodated persons. From this, the Regional Assistance Center for Refugees from Ukraine no longer allocates primary accommodation for newly arrived arrivals.

Have you already helped refugees from Ukraine in any way?
“Prague has been congested for a long time. To the best of our ability, we should try to contribute to the fact that people do not have to leave Ukraine, for example, due to non-functioning critical infrastructure, and thus limit the arrival of refugees to us. That is why we are now providing material aid to the cities there. If another wave of refugees nevertheless arises, managing it is a task primarily for the Czech government,” said Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates).
According to him, the Security Council is asking the government, in preparation for a possible new wave of refugees from Ukraine, to create a mechanism for the equal redistribution of refugees between regions and to share with the regions a strategy in case of a new wave of migration, including the maximum number of refugees for the decision on the status of the Czech Republic as a transit country.
