Salzburg jumps into second place after a thrashing victory over Pioneers
After the first-leg triumph in the CHL, EC Red Bull Salzburg is also celebrating last year’s champion Rögle in the domestic win2day ICE Hockey League. In the follow-up game of the 8th round, the Mozart city-dwellers clearly defeated the Pioneers Vorarlberg 6:1.
The game started perfectly for the “Eisbullen”. Meyer puts the hosts in front early with a goal in excess (6./PP). Only a few minutes later, Thomas Raffl follows suit. After preparatory work by Nissner, the captain made it 2-0 (11th).
The Pioneers surprisingly scored a goal just before the first third break. Jarusek brings the league newcomer back up with a hit on the power play (19./PP). The middle third started with good chances for both sides, but Salzburg are much more efficient and pull away in the second third.
First, P. Huber restores the old two-goal lead after great preliminary work by Meyer (30th). Then Schneider (35th) and Baltram (36th) make everything clear with a double strike.
M. Huber provided the final point with his goal in the third period. The attacker scored to make it 6-1 (50′).
Thanks to Innsbruck’s victory and simultaneous defeat, Salzburg jumped back to second place in the ICE Hockey League with 35 points. The Pioneers are ten points further behind in last place.
