Pioneers also had no chance against Salzburg – ice hockey –
Pioneers Vorarlberg were clearly beaten away by EC Red Bull Salzburg 6-1.
Ironically, against one of the best teams in the ICE Hockey League – EC Red Bull Salzburg – the Pioneers Vorarlberg wanted to find their way out of the crisis. And in the first third things didn’t look bad, at least in terms of goals. Salzburg were quickly 2-0 up after goals from Meyer (6th/PP.) and Raffl (11th), but Vorarlberg fought their way through the first third of the game and survived a 5-3 draw. Outnumbered without prejudice. Shortly before the break siren, Jarusek even scored the important goal in the power play.
Bad second third
In the second period, the Pioneers missed twice to equalize with a majority and were even lucky not to concede the third goal when Raffl shot the pole. In the 30th minute, Caffi was beaten again when Huber made it 3-1 from close range. This goal was a door opener for the home side, because Schneider (35th) and Baltram (36th) reinforced with a double strike to 5:1.
The starting phase of the last third was marked by penalties on both sides. But neither Salzburg nor Vorarlberg could make any profit from it. In a 5-on-5 game, Huber made it 6-1 for Salzburg in the 50th minute. In the remaining minutes, the Red Bulls brought the victory home with ease. For the Pioneers, the 6:1 means the next clear defeat. It continues today in a week in Asiago.
