«Zurich meets Berlin» – sharing knowledge at the Berlin Science Week
As announced by the city of Zurich, the “Zürich meets Berlin” festival took place in Berlin from November 4th to 8th, 2022 as part of the Berlin Science Week.
With more than 1400 participants in around twenty events, a scientific, touristic, cultural and political dialogue between the two cities could be driven.

For the first time, the “Zürich meets” festival was integrated into an existing event in order to create synergies with local organizations.
Zurich presence in the Museum of Natural History
On November 4th and 5th, 2022, the Berlin Science Week Campus took place in the Museum of Natural History.
In the entrance hall of the museum, the well-known Brachiosaurus brancai, which is more than 13 meters high, received company from exhibitions at the Zurich universities.

die University of Zurich (UZH) and the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) drew attention to themselves in two collaborative projects.
Exhibition from climate to raw materials were desired
The exhibition “Glacier as a clinical thermometer of climate change” in combination with the Aletsch glacier model from the 19th century from the Humboldt University in Berlin (HUB) made it possible to experience the changes in our Alps directly.
The exhibition will be on view in the HUB’s Humboldt Laboratory up to and including the end of June 2023.
On the other hand, the two Zurich universities addressed gold, a raw material that is indispensable in everyday life, in the panel discussion and exhibition “Digital Gold”.
20 events dedicated to Berlin and Zurich science and culture
The Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) launched a partnership with the Food Campus Berlin as part of “Zurich meets Berlin”.
The exhibit “Regenerative Food for a Healthy Planet” from the ZHAW and its Berlin cooperation partner complements each other in terms of a new sustainability of regeneration in the food sector.
Those at the ZHAW reflect on the topics of “regenerative – the new sustainable” as well as digitalization.
In addition to the specific topic of nutrition, the ZHAW also dealt with the topics of circular economy, reduction of total energy consumption in greenhouses and sustainability Clever cities and involved the audience in interactive formats such as “The Eco-Confessional”.
The common good orientation of digitization
Another event of the ZHAW and the University of Potsdam with top-class participants from Switzerland and Germany has advantages and challenges digitalization of the public sector illuminated.

A public panel discussion revolves around how we deal with water and its influence on the biodiversity and the climate.

They are habitats for plants and animals and are used as recreational areas. At the same time, they pose a risk of flooding, damage and water shortages.
In view of these contrasts, scientists and experts from Berlin and Zurich discussed future-oriented, nature-based adaptations for large cities and their surrounding areas.
Political exchange at different levels
Important issues were also addressed at the political level and relations between Zurich and Berlin deepened.
Led by Economics Director Carmen Walker Späh, member of the Canton of Zurich’s government council, the Zurich delegation was able to exchange views on the topics of the shortage of skilled workers, innovation promotion and research cooperation at the meeting with the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection.
In addition, Mayor Corin Mauch the traditionally very good relations with Berlin with the Governing Mayor Franziska Giffy continue in a first meeting.
