/VIDEO/ Alarming balance: The number of students from Moldova has halved. The frustrations of young people who emigrate
Every year, fewer and fewer young people celebrate International Students’ Day. This is because, from 2010 until now, the number of young people going to college has halved. If then, the number was almost 108 thousand, last year, only 10 thousand candidates submitted their files to higher education institutions in the country. Today, on their birthday, some told us that the main reason that makes them leave the Republic of Moldova is the low salary, but also the education system, which often does not give them the freedom to choose what they want to study.
Eight decades since International Students’ Day has been celebrated worldwide, and with each passing year, this celebration grows sadder as the number of students drops at an alarming rate.
The young people we managed to talk to today told us that the main factor that makes them leave the country would be the low salaries in the Republic of Moldova, but also the indifferent attitude they show towards their needs:
“Those people who are very talented are not given attention. Our country lately is very corrupt, even if the authorities are fighting it, nothing is noticed. That’s why we have a lot of young people who are already abroad where more opportunities are offered. It is sad that other countries think about the young generations, but our country does not do this”.
“I think that a problem that influences young people from the Republic of Moldova not to stay in the country, this problem of low salaries. I believe that the authorities must intervene in this case, because a young man in order to grow up, to have a beautiful family, to raise his children higher and to be happy, needs not only spiritual motivation, but also a motivation. financial”.
This young man is in his last year at the Faculty of Psychology, and claims that make-up services cost twice as much as consultations with a psychologist:
“I think it would be wonderful to increase the salary of psychologists, especially in state institutions, because there is a great need for psychologists in schools. Money does not motivate us to stay in that field we like. Therefore, please raise the salaries, so that they are good”.
I also talked with the students of the Ion Creangă State University, because, every year, fewer and fewer choose to study the sciences of education.
And here, the low salary that pedagogues receive would be among the main reasons for the lack of people wanting to study in this field. They are also the ones who come up with solutions:
“First of all, to select the optimal methods, so that a young specialist, in addition to the allowances he receives and the benefits from the state, does not practice for only three years and then be totally disappointed in the institutions, in the students and in the relations with . the parents”.
“I think one of the biggest issues and salary. It’s not motivating, it’s very small, I think that’s the biggest problem”.
Timur is already a sixth-year student at the Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University.
He claims that the problem faced by these people: is related to the education system, because it would not address conditions for all categories of
“As a person with disabilities, I would also like the integration of students and people with special needs in the environment. Also, in the Republic of Moldova there needs to be different development centers for people with special needs and people with CES. Also, fact of request in the field of work”.
The statute should get more involved in the lives of students and act with exact steps, Lilia Franț, Vice-President of the National Confederation of Trade Unions from the Republic of Moldova, would share this opinion:
“A commensurate salary, that would be the first motivation, and the second, infrastructure. Because they are young, the children want to grow up to leave their children in the care of other competent staff, some development possibilities, in addition to the fact that they are professionals and dedicate themselves to total activities of pedagogy, improvement, additional studies. “.
In the year 2021-2022, 56,600 students were enrolled in educational institutions in the Republic of Moldova.
