Restaurants in Russia lost almost 10% of revenue after the announcement of mobilization
Revenue among 2022 grew by 9.5%, according to a study by security and employment analysts r_keeper (available from Forbes). Examination of turnovers and average accounts for 2000 throughout the country. Two periods were compared: September 22–October 13 and September 1–21.
Revenue fell least of all in accidents (average bill up to 500 rubles) – by 8.3%, expensive restaurants are in second place (average bill above 900 rubles), their income decreased by 10.1%, and most of the turnover fell from education of the middle segment (500-900 rubles per visit) – 10.8%. “Obviously, activity has increased, the consumer has taken a wait-and-see attitude, in large cities there is an outflow of paying customers,” the r_keeper study says.
According to Nikolai Oligerov, a leading analyst of the service, the catering market is assessed by an increase in valuation, emigration of the middle class, a drop in income (from this, observations with an average check are most detected), and an increase is also approaching the observed indicators. Most of all, coffee houses and a fast food restaurant are closed, while there is an increase in the opening of inexpensive fast food establishments: shawarma, hot dogs, pizzerias.
At the same time, as analysts note, the beginning of the Russian “special operation” * in Ukraine was almost not affected by participation. Three weeks before February 24 and three weeks after this date, the receipt of catering outlets even increased – by an average of 2.5%. Growth was demonstrated by the low cost of housing (check up to 500 rubles) – by 8.2%. The turnover rate slightly decreased with an average check of 900-1500 rubles (-4.3%), and in the segment from 1500 rubles the decrease was completely (-1.5%).
According to r_keeper, Crimea became the most important after the “special operations” on the market: the number of outlets opened there fell by 64.4% last year. In addition, last year, since 2021, restaurants were opened in Sochi (-32.8%), in Anapa, Gelendzhik and Novorossiysk (-19.5% in total), as well as in other regions of the Krasnodar Territory (-12.7% ). %). In Krasnodar itself, the market grew by 27.4%, which is associated with the closure of the McDonald’s network and the opening of a large number of students in the fast food/street food format, analysts observe. Restaurants “Vkusno – and Points” (replacing McDonald’s) by Alexander Govor work in Krasnodar since July 12. The growth of open catering outlets throughout Russia over the same period of the disease is 2%.
