ALL ANTWERP. “My retired ex-colleague is like my family” (Antwerp)
Every weekday our reporter and photographer choose a casual passerby from the street for a nice conversation. Because everyone has a story. Especially in Antwerp. Today: Joyce Adriaenssen (32).
“My retired ex-colleague Roger and I have a special bond. We continue to see each other, even though he is retired. He will not easily meet up with other colleagues. He trained me in the job and now I help him, for example with questions about his mobile phone. He recently bought a smartphone and now he can WhatsApp. Dear darling, he sends. And then photos from his vacation, for example. He doesn’t like to hear it, but he’s also a grandfather to me. We don’t see each other every week, but we know what we have in common. I have a personalized T-shirt from Duvel for him today. He is a big fan of a Duveltje.”
“We were jointly responsible for security at BASF. Those long night shifts and holidays are sometimes tough. Fortunately, I also have hobbies to discover. I also keep Roger informed about those hobbies. I do crossfit and football. If I can lift a heavy weight again, I will let him know immediately and send a video. He also likes to watch games. If I know I can start football, he will definitely be there.”
“Contestant of the television program Camp Waes Debby is my trainer, a sturdy lady. Something like Camp Waes would also be something for me, if I didn’t struggle with my back. I’ve had a double hernia for ten years. That sometimes makes the job difficult when I have to stand for hours. Playing football is actually not good for that back, but it’s too much fun and I’m still too young to leave it all.” (re)
