“When considering possible hosting, we take into account both the logistical and financial challenges for the host country, as well as our experience in energy transition and decarbonization,” said Dusík in a written statement.
According to him, the Czechia has not yet decided whether it will apply to host the event, and will also consider the possibility of submitting a joint bid with another country from Eastern Europe.
Bulgaria has already indicated that it is willing to host climate talks. According to Dusík, several countries from the region have shown interest in hosting or co-hosting.
The annual COP conferences attract tens of thousands of delegates and are the place where almost all the countries of the world discuss how to avert catastrophic climate change, and assesses progress to date in this effort.
COP27 began on November 6 in the Egyptian seaside resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, where it takes place until November 18. Representatives of approximately 200 countries are here for two weeks to discuss how to limit global warming.
