Strong comeback: Antwerp turns 2-0 in the crazy final phase into 2-2 against Club Brugge
Until the final quarter it didn’t look like Antwerp would grab anything from Bruges, but Van Bommel’s substitutions decided otherwise. Club came 1-0 to Mechele before the break and doubled the score on the hour via Jutgla. Topper played with everyone’s idea, but a solid final quarter with goals from Frey and Janssen resulted in a division of points on Jan Breydel: 2-2. Antwerp are handy from two points on Club and can enter the World Cup break with a good feeling.

“We both want to win and we don’t want to lose,” said Van Bommel before kick-off. Data is in the game image before the break. Both teams were well positioned, and yet they found the space to poke. De Laet put Mignolet to work after two minutes with a surprising shot.
Antwerp could hardly reach his deepest man Janssen. Club liked Jutgla. The Spaniard who missed a World Cup selection always had to use one of his good opportunities before the break. Each time he found Butez in his way.
Twice Mignolet
The visitors had their best minutes halfway through the first period. Odoi let Bataille go free towards goal. In the quest for his better right foot, the fullback took too long to print. Mignolet, cap on head, saved thoughtfully. The Bruges keeper had learned his lesson. Last season Antwerp came up when Mignolet was blinded by the sun. The Red Devil was also impossible to find with his pet. A corner from Stengs just missed an Olympic goal.
Quite a few World Cup-goers took part in this topper. Mechele missed a ticket for Qatar on Thursday. The central defender of the national champion on the heads after a well-cut corner from Skov Olsen. The Antwerp protest for a pushing error of nothing.
Antwerp bills immediately pay off
In the fourth quarter, the fut even came out for both teams. Club was low. Antwerp had no reaction in store. It wasn’t until the hour that Stengs kicked again towards Mignolet. In the counter reaction it was 2-0. Jutgla gave up cleverly and kicked in very finely. A class flash.
In order to set the standards, Van Bommel once again took his two-spire system from under the dust. Successfully. Janssen served Frey for the connecting goal. Less than a minute later, the ball hit the dot. Mechele stopped the faster Scott incorrectly. The eleven meter was a breeze for Janssen, who pushed his ninth of the season against the ropes.
De Grote Oude pushed on for a while, but the 2-2 remained. As Van Bommel predicted beforehand: “We want to win and we don’t want to lose.” Although this result was a boost, especially for his team, given the progress of the score.

Club – Antwerp final score: 2-2
Referee Lardot ends the match. Club Brugge and Antwerp keep each other in balance with two goals each, but Lardot’s performance is a bit over the top, with a very questionable penalty for Antwerp.
Club Brugge may feel cheated, but that’s not the point. For the visitors, after a 2-0 deficit, this result may feel like a victory. After this draw, leader Racing Genk may soon be a bit further out of his lap.

Janssen kicks in the 2-2 from the dot
Janssen scores for Antwerp.
Mignolet doesn’t stand a chance at Vincent Janssen’s cannonball. And so it goes from 2-0 to 2-2 in two minutes. What a crazy phase, with especially referee Lardot who does not leave a very good impression.
