Club Brugge-Antwerp risk match without incident | Bruges
Bruges/AntwerpThe fear of heavy riots after the top match between Club Brugge and Anderlecht has turned out to be unfounded. According to the local police, everything went smoothly and there were no significant incidents.
The supporters of Club Brugge and Antwerp already carry a serious past with them. Five years ago the situation got completely out of hand, when after the game hooligans of the home team pelted the police on the Gistelse Steenweg. The Bruges criminal court just passed a conviction in that case last week. However, the hooligans largely went free due to a procedural error.
It was feared that would be a prelude to new fan violence on Sunday afternoon. However, the match went off without significant incidents in the stands. “There are also no problems,” says spokeswoman Lien Depoorter of the local police in Bruges. “The Antwerp supporters buses were able to leave safely.”
