Orange shared bicycles are in Boom at station (Boom)
In the Antwerp transport region, from Wuustwezel to Beveren, you can currently see the characteristic orange Donkey Republic shared bicycles popping up everywhere. The Danish company distributes a total of 1,650 bicycles in 32 municipalities. In Boom they are available at the station.
The extensive network extended the mobility hubs, such as park-and-rides and train stations, with each other. This allows cyclists to move quickly throughout the region.
Renting a Donkey bike is easy. You go to one of the drop-off locations – that’s the station in Boom – unlock a bike there with the Donkey Republic app and go on your way. After the ride, leave your bike at one of the other drop-off locations. A single journey (30 minutes) costs 3 euros, a monthly subscription (maximum 40-minute subscription) 72 euros and an annual subscription (maximum 400 written) 600 euros.
“The successful Velo city bikes in Antwerp prove that shared bicycles work,” says Mobility Alderman Carla Herremans (CD&V). “By the way, Donkey Republic is not at its best with this network. The Danish company is active in 71 cities worldwide. In Belgium, about 800 bicycles are already circulating in Ghent and Kortrijk, with success. We are therefore proud to be part of one of the largest electric bicycle sharing networks in the world with our municipality.”
