I do not believe that the project for a new Barcelona-Andorra train line is viable
I wanted to give my opinion on the plan for Connect Barcelona and Andorra by train. I suppose that the cost of the project can easily exceed the planned 700 million euros, but if the new train line finally becomes a reality, will it have commercial success? To answer this question, we must look at a couple of ways of current transport to get to Andorra. First, from Barcelona. If we look at the current train Barcelona-Puigcerdà and the number of passengers, it seems that the vast majority of visitors prefer to make the trip in their cars. But, can having a train from Barcelona to Andorra convince people to leave their vehicle and change transport? how many of these drivers Would you be willing to leave the car to travel on the new train? I think that fewbecause without a car it would be complicated, for example, move by highway once in Andorra to visit a nearby town. It also appears that the plane to reach Andorra from Madrid that lands at the airport of La Seu d´Urgell It has not been a commercial success.
The project study speaks of more than 7,000 passengers a day using the new line to Andorra. This is very hard for me to believe, especially thinking about the days weekdays (from Monday to Friday). I think a lot of thought should be given before spending so much money on a project that could end up as a ghost new line and destroy natural landscapes of great value.
