Among the training proposals, stays abroad for high school students stand out
MONTICELLO – On Monday 7 November, with the first online meetings, the activities related to the open days of the “Alessandro Greppi” Institute in Monticello began, intended for students who are preparing to choose which high school to attend.
Within the vast educational offer of the “Greppi”, the numerous experiences abroad intended for high school students are of particular importance. Last summer, for example, four students from the “Greppi” (thirteen female students and one male student) took part in a three-week study and work stay in Vienna, Austria. The pupils were hosted, divided into pairs or small groups, by local families.
In the first days of their stay, they followed a German language course lasting a total of 20 hours, then they carried out an internship in companies located in Vienna, Perchtoldsdorf and Guntramsdorf, for a total of about 80 hours.
The calendar of activities organized by the accompanying teacher is very rich. The students visited the main palaces and gardens of the city: Hofburg, Belvedere Castle, Schönbrunn Palace, Stadtpark, Volksgarten, Burggarten, Prater. They saw the masterpieces of art kept in the Habsburg capital, by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Caspar David Friedrich and Oskar Kokoschka.
At the “Albertina” museum they admired works of contemporary art. The house museum of Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, is not to be missed. And again they visited the Prunksaal of the Nationalbibliothek, a majestic Baroque library built by Emperor Charles VI of Habsburg; the Naturhistorisches Museum and the natural history museum containing the Venus of Willendorf. There was no shortage of walks in the heart of Viennese social life and free moments: for example at the Donaukanal, a branch of the Danube which borders the city centre. The final dinner took place in the Neubau district.
In short, the students lived a varied and engaging experience, in which they were able to deepen their knowledge of German, to get involved in the world of work and to develop greater autonomy and self-awareness, as well as to enjoy the wonders of a of the most fascinating capitals of old Europe.
