ALL ANTWERP. “I’m shrinking, but hopefully I’ll stay bigger than this walker” (Antwerp)
Every weekday our reporter and photographer pick a casual passer-by off the street for a nice conversation. Want everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Josephina Didden (82).
“As a true Antwerper, I am certainly proud of my city, but it is more than that. I’ve lived here all my life, in many different places. The Klapdorp has been my home for a while now. And of it there is good! Take, for example, the various art shops in the area, pure pleasure.”
“I also have a very nice figurative second home: Taverne De Post, a legendary business where I have spent many years. Not only as a customer, but also as a poet’s wife. I said years before that things would stay there. That adventure always started around 2 a.m. and part in the morning. everything had to spic and span are for the next day.”
“De Post is still a good business with a delicious kitchen. The fresh stew with croquettes, for example, is unbeatable. Flemish fare, but pure quality. By the way, I’m going to eat there in a moment with a good friend of mine who works at the real post office. Quite ironic.”
“Hopefully I will arrive on time. I recently broke and damaged my hip, so I walk around with a walker. Plus, I have osteoporosis, which means I’m shrinking. Hopefully I will stay taller than this walker.”
