IN PICTURES: the magic of Niel fair (Niel)
In Niel, Monday was a new beginning. With about 150 stands of traders and associations and about eighty fairground stalls, the annual market knows how to warm visitors from the wider region every year.
Niel belongs to the smaller municipalities of the province of Antwerp, but when it comes to parties they know how to make their mark every year with the annual market period that lasts no less than eleven days. One of the highlights is the actual fair day, which again attracted a lot of people on Monday. There is a certain magic about the annual fair – Monday was the 167th edition – that manages to lure the people ‘out of their room’.
“The big fair is an extra asset that we can unpack every year,” says Mayor Tom De Vries (Open Vld). “As far as I know, this is the largest fair in the province of Antwerp after the Sinksenfoor and that provides extra attraction in any case.”
For Niel, it is now looking forward to yet another hit, the traditional annual market cross on November 11, which again brings a lot of toppers from cyclo-cross to Niel. New European champion Michael Vanthourenhout will be present, among others.
