Nordmann arrested in Copenhagen – jailed for 72 hours
The man in his 20s is suspected of murdering his Polish roommate and of kidnapping their shared daughter. He is now imprisoned for three days.
On Saturday evening, a Norwegian citizen was arrested by Danish police. On Sunday he was produced for remand in Denmark. He is now imprisoned for 72 hours.
– We have Saturday at 22.37 arrested a Norwegian in Copenhagen. The man is wanted internationally, suspected of murder committed in Poland, the Danish police signed Twitter.
According to The extra sheet the man will be imprisoned for three days, waiting for the Polish authorities to request his extradition to Poland.
The police asked for closed doors during the prison meeting.
The Norwegian is suspected of murdering his 26-year-old Polish girlfriend, and of kidnapping their common child.
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs tells Aftenposten that they are aware of the case through the media.
– The embassy in Copenhagen is in contact with the Danish police to get confirmed information, says press officer Mathias Rongved to Aftenposten.
UD generally says in such cases that when Norwegian citizens are imprisoned in other Nordic countries, local authorities ensure that the imprisoned person is appointed a defense attorney.
– They have the right to contact their country’s embassy if that person wishes. Norwegian citizens who are arrested abroad can request consular assistance, writes press officer at UD, Mathias Rongved.
Furthermore, he informs about being minors who stay in Nordic countries without being taken care of by the respective country’s child protection service.
Requested to be handed over to Poland
It was around 5pm on Saturday afternoon that a woman was found murdered in her home in Auschwitz in Poland. According to the Polish press, it was the father who found her, reports NTB.
The father then contacted the police and said that the grandson was also missing.
The man who was wanted by Polish police on Saturday is in his 20s and lives with the dead woman.
Later that day, at 11:13 p.m., Polish police announced on Twitter that the child had been found. She was found in the car of the wanted person in Denmark. At the same time, the Norwegian citizen was arrested.
Both the mother and daughter have Polish citizenship. This is what the spokesperson for the Polish police, Sebastian Glen, says TV2.
He also confirms that Polish police have requested his extradition to the country for questioning.
