Wezenberg swimming pool experiences an underground Night of Water Polo (Antwerp)
The Royal Antwerp Swimming Club Scaldis protected the second edition of the Night of Water Polo in the Wezenberg swimming pool. The whole evening buzzed with sporting activity. In total, more than 200 players took part in the tournament, followed by an afterparty.
The aim of this event is of course to promote the sport. Water polo is still a noble unknown in our country and in our region, even though the Antwerp club has been part of the Belgian top for several years.
Chairman Mike Tignol was beaming to the side. “This tournament may not bring in new members, but it is great for engagement. Everyone is here to help. We were able to surprise a lot of parents of young players to get involved. There are a lot of teams from other sports. There is a team of Amici di Bici from Sofie Goos, there is a women’s rugby team, a cycling team, a handball team and so on. But above all, it should be fun. Everyone gets the chance to get acquainted with the sport of water polo. This event is included in the Topsport file of the city of Antwerp. That way we can get subsidies,” says Tignol. (jbr)
