Vienna, a wandering belly tells the beauties of the city
You put a belly that travels within a city, to celebrate its beauties and the body positivity concept. Even so a place is told. The director Bjorn Ruhmann has made a promotional short film to show the beauties of monuments and works of art of Vienna. Is titled ‘Swell’ from the name of the protagonist.
The project, an important tourist vehicle for the Austrian capital, is also linked to a significant message of inclusiveness. The main feature of the short is in fact a belly that moves away from its owner of the city and sets out to discover the person.
A belly in Vienna
The microfilm – lasts among others from the Vienna Tourist Board – lasts approx 6 minutes. Belly (the belly) is seen abandoning Harry, the owner who appears rather dejected and devoted exclusively to sporting activity, and begins to explore the city. The main purpose of Belly is to find joy and serenity and decide to do it through beauty. It is for this reason that the unusual but intriguing protagonist finds himself admiring the luxurious hotels Viennese and to stay in their historic rooms, to stroll through the streets, to admire the best known paintings exhibited in the museums of the city, to visit the zoo and to enjoy a typical Viennese holiday that includes a taste of sweets and delicacies. Only at the end will he reunite with Harry, in a well-known restaurant in the city. The entire short film is accompanied by an all-Viennese background music: in the first part you listen to the Wiener Symphoniker, the electronic track is by the composer and DJ Electric Indigo.
Vienna and Body positivity
In the first few minutes of the short, Belly admits that she doesn’t feel accepted and welcome and is being treated by Harry like a burden. Her desire to feel alive to her pushes her to discover and travel, to seek a sense of redemption. This is the main message of the project, which focuses heavily on inclusiveness and acceptance. It is no coincidence that Vienna has decided to focus on body positivity: the Venus of Willendorf which is located at natural History Museum of the city, is in fact often cited as the first example of beauty and acceptance of one’s own body and forms, even generous ones. Norbert Kettner – director of the Vienna Tourist Board – also explained that the belly appears in the short as “a heroic figure that comes to a realization: only if you love yourself can you really break up. Shameless. Without judgment “.
