Earlier this week in Lyon, an 18-year-old student was the victim of the theft of his backpack. He was able to be found thanks to the geolocation of his Airpods.
Tuesday, October 25, a student was the victim of an aggravated theft in a university located in the 7th arrondissement of Lyon. Aged 18, the young man is having lunch in a university restaurant, backpack at his feet. Moments later, his bag was missing and he called the police. The bag contained his wallet with bank cards and identity papers, a Macbook, Airpods and 60 euros.
Geolocation to find the perpetrators of the theft
It was finally thanks to the geolocation of the headphones that the young man and the police found the bag and the two suspects. Homeless, the two suspected men were arrested. They used the means of payment to make different purchases. The first recognized the theft and the second the use of the victim’s bank card. Presented to the prosecution on Thursday, October 27, the author of the theft was imprisoned and sentenced to six months in prison. The second is the subject of a tort. This is a simplified criminal procedure, without trial, which applies to certain offences, of low gravity and without recidivism.
