Pensioner died in apartment fire in district 7 in Zurich – Fireworld.at
ZURICH (SWITZERLAND): Early on Saturday morning, October 29, 2022, a pensioner was fatally injured in an apartment fire in District 7 in Zurich.
Shortly before 7.30 a.m., the operations center of Schutz & Rescue Zurich received a report of a burning smell in an apartment building on Hochstrasse. Together with the professional fire brigade, several patrol cars from the Zurich city police also moved to the site. After it was determined from which apartment the burning smell was coming, the professional fire brigade immediately started an extinguishing attack from the inside.
During the extinguishing work, the professional firefighters found a person who was staying in the affected apartment. The professional firefighters rescued the elderly woman from the apartment and the paramedics who also arrived immediately began resuscitation. Unfortunately, the woman eventually died on the spot.
Thanks to the immediate extinguishing attack, the fire brigade quickly brought the fire under control. The other residents were able to move into their apartments as there was no danger to them. The smoke extraction and measurement work has now been completed. There was property damage of several 10,000 francs. It is still unclear what caused the fire in the apartment.
The Zurich public prosecutor’s office, the city police and fire investigators from the Zurich cantonal police have started investigations.
Protection & Rescue Zurich was in addition to the professional fire brigade with two tank fire engines, a turntable ladder and the operations management on site, the medical service with two ambulances, an emergency doctor and the operations management.
