The City Council of Prague 7 confirmed the jury’s decision and announced the winner of the international open architectural competition for the design of a new urban apartment building, which will be built on the corner of Železničářů and Za Papírnou streets. The first prize was awarded to the Apropos Architects studio.
Prague announced an international open architectural competition on July 7 of this year. 45 architectural studios submitted their designs to the competition. Among the authors, in addition to domestic architects, foreign participants from Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Great Britain were also represented. The first prize went to the Apropos Architects studio, which operates in the Czech Republic, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The second prize went to the architectural and design office AVE architect from Pilsen. Architect Matěj Šebek from Prague placed third.
The proposed building has six full above-ground and one recessed floors to Železničářů Street and five full above-ground and one recessed floors to Za Papírnou Street. The house connects to the surrounding buildings and creates a dignified corner in the newly transformed city district. With its architecture, expression and materials used, it refers to the industrial past of Holešovice.
The winning proposal convinced the jury with its clear concept, balanced proportions in the floor plan and the mass and quality of the common spaces.
“The interior layout allows for both private outdoor space for each apartment and generous shared spaces. The roof terrace offers a balanced mix of open and closed spaces. The effective layout offers a high number of apartments and, together with the chosen structural solution, also enough options for connecting them and a generally high flexibility of the floor plan,” said the jury when choosing the winner.
In the basic form, over 60 residential units are designed in the building, mostly with a size of 1 kk up to 30 m2. Of this, 30% are barrier-free apartments.
The house has been designed with green roofs and photovoltaic panels are also planned here, which will be used to solve the common energy consumption in the house.
The ground floor of the building will be active, in addition to the commercial part, there will also be insufficient civic amenities. At the moment, Prague 7 counts on a children’s group for at least 21 children.
Construction costs will be covered by a subsidy from the Affordable Housing Development Fund in the capital. m of Prague in the amount of 170 million crowns. A new urban apartment building in Prague 7 could take up to four years, depending on the length of the permitting process.
