Watch the chaotic scenes in the video window above!
There were wild scenes when the referee blew the match between the two teams.
After the game was blown, the referee was informed by VAR.
– They are out of the Champions League in two seconds! Simeone fumbles towards the dressing room, then there will be a VAR situation, exclaimed TV 2’s commentator Robin Grov.
The referee restarted the match and Atlético Madrid were awarded a penalty kick. Yannick Ferreira Carrasco took what may be the most important spark of his career.
He bombed. The return was melted into the crossbar, then another shot came, which went through Carrasco’s leg and over. With this, Atlético Madrid is out of the Champions League.
– It’s a game you see often here at Atlético’s home. They are a layer of «balls». We showed «balls» back. In the end it was karma in the way the situation reacted towards the end, says Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky.
Dark day for Spanish football
Wednesday 26 October 2022 will be remembered as a dark day for Spanish football.
Earlier on Wednesday, Barcelona were kicked out of the Champions League. Well, it is also clear that Atlético Madrid is out of the tournament.
Diego Simeone and his players depended on winning for the Champions League dream to live on until next week.
Wednesday has thus ensured a Champions League exit for both Atlético Madrid and Barcelona. On Tuesday, Sevilla also smoked. Thus, it is only Real Madrid again from the Spanish team.
Surprisingly, the Spaniards clearly did not advance from the group which consisted of Club Brugge, FC Porto, Atlético Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen.
Wednesday’s draw also means that the Europa League can hang on by a thin thread. Next week it will be decided whether Leverkusen or Atlético will finish in third place.
These layers are on and these layers are out
13 teams are already ready for the playoffs. That means there are three places left to fight for next week.

These are further: Benfica, Club Brugge, Borussia Dortmund, Inter, Liverpool, Manchester City, Napoli, PSG, Porto and Real Madrid.
Europa League: Barcelona,
Away: Viktoria Plzen and FC Copenhagen.
