Sustainability award from world city network for Amsterdam
Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (MRA) has won in the winning category ‘United direct action in critical sectors’. The jury of the international city network C40 – an international network of mayors of which Femke Halsema is also a part – honored the action network in Buenos Aires last week. 15% GasBack lived up to the price. It was set up in the network just after the Russian; by the municipalities in the MRA, but also by network operators, interest groups, residents’ organizations and companies.
Part of 15% GasTerug is the initiative to switch off the lighting at night to be switched off at the Zuidas and screw the temperature down to the municipal offices. Another example is that the Fixbrigade help more tenants to close. In total, more than 150 organizations participate in the network.
Bloomberg Philanthropies Awards
The C40 Cities Bloomberg Philanthropies Awards are intended to highlight world cities that take their own policies against climate problems. Incidentally, Amsterdam wins one of the eleven in five categories. In 2014 Amsterdam has also won the prize in the Finance & Economic Development category.
15% GasTerug was established in March after a call from the then alderman Marieke van Doorninck (Sustainability). After a forecast by network company Alliander, it appeared at the end of August that the MRA this year is heading for almost ten percent less gas consumption than the average in recent years.

The action network is organizing another meeting in the Olympic Stadium this week. On Thursday afternoon, Amsterdammers can go there in a workshop learn how to quickly reduce their energy bill, for example with radiator foil and by foil to stretch their frames.
