Anne Sila in Toulouse: “In concert, I go on a trip with the public”
In November, Anne Sila released an album of covers of French songs. It will be Friday, October 21 at the Casino Barrière, in Toulouse. The opportunity to discover the many facets of the great winner of The Voice All Stars.
His cover of “I’m coming back to get you”, by Gilbert Bécaud, had given rise to a moving reunion with his coach from season 4 of The Voice, Florent Pagny. Unhappy finalist in 2015, Anne Sila took up the challenge of representing herself, six years later, at The Voice All Stars 2021, the competition for the most beautiful voice that she brilliantly won. A year after this victory, the young singer with the sublime voice is on stage, Friday, in Toulouse, with a very varied repertoire of songs to her and covers.
Is it your victory at The Voice All Stars that made you want to do concerts again?
Of course. It was also the spark for the release of my 4th album, “A nos cœurs”, which is very close to my heart. I come from different musical universes and it shows in this record.
You have just released a single, with a very nice cover of “We”, by Hervé Vilard. The album is coming soon?
Yes the release is scheduled for November 25th. It’s an album that I called “Madeleines”, because it is made up of a dozen covers of well-known songs that rocked my childhood and my youth. Tracks by Dalida, Mike Brant, Joe Dassin, Moustaki and many more… I can’t wait.
Are you going to sing some on Friday?
I leave the surprise. You know, in concert, I go on a journey with the public. I make it a point of honor that it’s really live. There are five of us with my musicians, nothing is recorded, and we allow ourselves the freedom to offer unforeseen moments, to make jokes, to chat with people, to vary from one concert to another, depending of the atmosphere of the place.
Is the meeting with the public necessary for your balance?
More than necessary, mandatory. What makes me happiest is the stage, creating unique moments with people and showing all my facets.
How did you decide to get into singing?
With my brothers and sisters, we have parents who would have dreamed of learning an instrument and who couldn’t. We had this chance. Initially, I have a classical training. I was playing cello at the conservatory of Valence. Then, while I was enrolled in English college, I did a replacement in a world singing group. On a fact of the festivals. I gave myself a year, telling myself that I might go back to my studies, and here it is, I’ve been singing for 12 years, a childhood dream. I trained in jazz, pop music, musical comedy in “Jesus” where I played the role of Mary, there were The Voice, three albums…
How does inspiration come?
Often the songs I write talk about love, the passage of time, somewhat nostalgic themes. When I’m alone I sit at the piano and it often starts like that. I compose the majority of my songs but I also ask more experienced composers and authors to work with me. So I learn a lot. I’ve always been very strict with myself, not always in a good way. But with a little kindness, I sometimes allow myself to screw up.
To resist stress, what do you do?
As my professional life is quite hectic, I love cocooning in my apartment in Paris. My favorite season is fall. I like the rain, plaids, mugs, cozy moments with Simba my cat that I’m gaga. Sometimes I party with my musician friends after a concert. But before, I am very concentrated, in my bubble. I take this job very seriously because I know that I am very lucky to do what I love.
