A vulgar pedestrian braked a honking ambulance in Prague, a patient was suffocating inside
The incident happened on Monday morning at the Palackého náměstí stop in Prague. The pedestrian walked in the path of the Trans Hospital private ambulance, which was transporting a patient with acute problems to the hospital with the alarm activated.
At that moment, the man was blocking his walking on the tram belt, the only place suitable for smooth passage, because another tram was standing next to it at the stop.
The pedestrian on the recording walks slowly, and when he finally heads to the sidewalk, he makes a vulgar gesture in the form of a raised middle finger towards the driver. The white-haired man has his back to the ambulance the whole time.
They reported on the case on Tuesday Twitter rescuers from Central Bohemia who wanted an example of the difficulties their colleagues faced, to draw attention to unnecessary recklessness at a time when you can lose your life.
“You never know if someone is fighting for their life. Be considerate. Don’t let us waste precious minutes,” the rescuers wrote on the video.
A private ambulance is also entitled to the right of way
The head of Trans Hospital Bořek Bulíček also confirmed the incident to Novinka. His colleagues were just transporting an elderly patient to the General University Hospital on nearby Karlov náměstí.
“The man had severe breathing problems after lung surgery. Because he was suffocating, he was permanently on oxygen,” said Bulíček.
According to him, the rescue workers did not report the incident anywhere, for example to the police, because there was no serious delay on the way and it was a matter of a few seconds.
In addition to the recklessness of some people, Bulíček emphasized that people are often mistaken when I think that a private ambulance is not entitled to such driving and priority notification.
“We are a normal emergency service and we also go to emergency cases. We can be called via the emergency line 155,” Bulíček mentioned, adding that the trips are under the direction of the operations center of the Central Bohemian Ambulance, which a colleague from Trans Hospital uses according to the current need. This ambulance also operates in the South Bohemian region.
