The area where the Russian gas pipeline stretches on the seabed of the Baltic Sea outside Sweden is no longer blocked off.
Journalists from the Swedish newspaper have, with the help of Norwegian Trond Larsen of the Norwegian company Blueye Robotics, investigated the area with an underwater drone.
At a depth of 80 metres, there are large channels in the seabed and pieces that look like broken pipe parts. At least 50 meters of the pipeline is gone or buried under the seabed, the newspaper writes.
There has been speculation about sabotage and who could be behind it. Many point to Russiawho in turn rejects the accusations and calls them “absurd”.
The Copenhagen police, together with the Armed Forces and the police intelligence service, have carried out a series of preliminary investigations of Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 after the gas leaks at the end of September.
The investigation confirms that there is extensive damage to the gas line and that the damage was caused by powerful explosions, writes the police in a press release on Tuesday.
Based on the investigation, it has been decided to set up a joint investigation group.
– The investigation group will, as before, work together with relevant authorities both in Denmark and abroad, including the Norwegian Armed Forces, which assists with the investigation of crime scenes in the Baltic Sea, the police write.
They further write that it is not possible to say anything about when the investigation is expected to be completed.
