High-speed trains in Brno: the study will show whether there can be a terminal in Wienská
Brno representatives have long been skeptical of the creation of a new terminal in Vídeňská Street. “We keep repeating that the terminal seems redundant to us. As a matter of priority, we insist that, if possible, all high-speed trains arrive at the new main station,” said Filip Chvátal, the councilor for regional planning in Brno.
Stamp for high-speed trains via Brno: the journey to Prague will be within an hour
That is why he is glad that a study will be created that will examine the territory as a whole. “This is a weakening of the new train station, which should be the gateway to the city, including the north-south track diameter and connection to the entire urban public transport network. Whereas the Vídeňská terminal is without a connection to public transport, it must be created, even so it is remote from the point of view of the rest of the city,” said Chvátal. In addition, according to him, the terminal will put even more traffic on the part of Bohunice.
The new station could be located roughly between the entrance to the D1 highway and the Central Cemetery. According to the Railway Administration, people from the outskirts of the city or the southern part of the region will not have to travel to the center of Brno for long-distance train travel. “First of all, passengers who use their car as connecting transport will not have to look for parking spaces in the center, which have been in short supply for a long time. The terminal will also serve visitors to the eastern part of the city, for example when traveling to the university hospital or university campus. It will be possible thanks to the stopping of express trains and suburban express connections from Vysočina,” said Jan Nevola, a spokesman for the railways.
Design of long-distance train line management. It is proposed by the client, which is the Ministry of Transport.
The proposal is designed in such a way that it is possible to easily transfer at the terminal also on the regional connection on the line between Zastávka and the Brno main station, which will enable the construction of additional platforms on this line as well. “The proposal also envisages the provision of a violation on city bus and tram lines. The vast majority of trains will continue to serve the main Brno station. Terminals only serve as a complement to the system,” added Nevola.
The line management proposes the customer of long-distance transport, which is the Ministry of Transport. The fastest trains called Sprinter, which are supposed to travel at a speed of up to 320 kilometers per hour, are to stop at the Vídeňská terminal. They will probably avoid the Brno main station. Representatives of the Railway Administration have previously stated that they submit the operation of Sprinters at the carriers’ own commercial risk.
According to Maleček, knesl kynčl architects will start the preparation of the territorial study of the Vídeňská transport terminal this November, and it should be ready in exactly one year. They will also start with the acquisition of the third update of regional territorial development principles, which should convert the route of high-speed lines from Velká Bíteš to Brno from territorial reserves to design areas. “I hope that we will manage everything in order to approve the third update of the principles no later than September 2024, that is, by the end of this term,” noted Maleček.
The cost of preparing a territorial study is approximately eight million crowns. According to Maleček, for the update of the principles of territorial development, the money will be drawn according to how much work the developers do.
