The first victorious battle of the Bocskai Uprising is also commemorated in Debrecen and Álmosd
On Thursday, October 13, from 6 p.m. – on the eve of the famous battle of Álmosd-Diószeg – the Magnitúdó Astronomical Society will organize an astronomy and military history lecture in room 106 of the DEMKI Újkert Community House (17 Jerikó u., Debrecen). At the free entry program entitled “The Astronomical Sky of the Victorious Battle of Prince Bocska”, Endre Szoboszlai, an astronomer-disseminator, journalist and custodian of hussar traditions, will give a colorful presentation with a projection. At the historical and astronomical chronology presentation, those interested will be able to learn what the sky was like on the night from the fourteenth to the fifteenth of October 1604, and what sensation was visible in the sky at the time.
The next day, Friday, October 14, from 2 p.m., the municipality of Álmosd will organize a wreath-laying and commemorative ceremony at the large sculpture composition on the border to commemorate the Battle of Bocskai. The guest will be greeted by Mayor Sándor Tóth and Member of Parliament László Tasó. A festive speech is given by Dr. József Szabó and Endre Szoboszlai. Reformed Árpád Buzás and Greek Catholic priest Gergely Szaplonczay say a blessing. Afterwards, Zoltán Pajna, the chairman of the Hajdú-Bihar County Assembly, will hand over the Bocskai saber to the mayor of Álmosd. The garrison military band of the Bocskai Brigade, its honor guards and the students of the Álsmosd elementary school will take part in the ceremony. During the sabre-handover, he participates in the two guardians of the hussar tradition of the county hussar band.
