What if it’s the right time to hustle Olympique Lyonnais in his stronghold of Groupama Stadium? the Toulouse football club will play Lyon (Rhone), Friday October 7, 2022, in the opening match of the 10e Ligue 1 day.
Lyon on a bad series, Toulouse pulls itself together
sevene in Ligue 1, OL are still on a series of four defeats (against big teams in the championship, however!). Conversely, Toulouse, 11e ex-aequo, has taken its head out of the water a little in recent weeks. The promoted remains on a magnificent success (4-2) won last Saturday against Montpellier. In the standings, only two points separate the clubs of the 3e and the 4e City of France.
Eight years since Toulouse did not beat Lyon
For the past 40 years, the two teams have faced each other 56 times all competitions combined, and the balance is clearly leaning towards Lyon: 32 wins for the Gones, 13 draws and 11 successes for the Pitchouns.
Also to know that Toulouse has no longer won against Lyon for eight years. An eternity! It was August 16, 2014 at the Stadium. A great victory 2 goals to 1, with in particular a goal of Wissam Ben Yedder, when on the Lyonnais side, a certain Alexandre Lacazette (who played again this evening) had reduced the score… The following 12 duels between the two clubs ended in a draw, and eleven victories for Lyon.
And to find a victory for Téfécé in Lyon, you even have to go back… to May 18, 1966. That day, the attacker Edouard Wojciak scored the only goal of the game. It was then the ancestor of Téfécé, since the first Toulouse football club, founded in 1937, disappeared the following year during its merger with the Parisian club Red Star, before the creation of the Toulouse Sports Union (UST ) in 1970, which would once again become the Toulouse football club in 1979.
Which groups are selected by the two teams?
Here is the group selected by Philippe Montanier. Guardians: Dupé, Haug, Himeur. Defenders: Diarra, Costa, Keben, Nicolaisen, Rouault, Sylla, Zandén. Midfielders: Chaibi, Dejaegere, Genreau, Spierings, Van den Boomen, Tsingaras. Attackers: Aboukhlal, Ratao, Birmancevic, Dallinga, Onaiwu. Absent: Desler, Healey, Remains, Pettersson, Flemmings, Begraoui.
Here is the group selected by Peter Bosz. Goalkeepers: Lopes, Riou, Bonnevie. Defenders: Boateng, Da Silva, Diomande, Gusto, Henrique, Lukeba, Tagliafico, T. Mendes. Midfielders: Aouar, Caqueret, Lepenant, Reine-Adélaïde, Tolisso. Attackers: Cherki, Dembélé, Lacazette, Tetê, Toko Ekambi. Absent: Pollersbeck, Faivre.
Philippe Montanier: “We have nothing to lose there”
If the men of Peter Bosz are in the hard, the purple coach, he expects a start: “Inevitably, Lyon will be extremely mobilized forr break a negative spiral, so it’s not going to be easy, ”warned Philippe Montanier.
“We are going to play our best, we have nothing to lose there. We are playing in a great stadium against a great team, so the motivation will be optimal at home too!”.
