In Friday’s match in České Budějovice, our team was not even two ahead after hits by Roman Horák and Vladimír Sobotka. Better and more active in shooting, Motor equalized every time, but otherwise they were grinding their teeth on the great Jakub Kovář, thanks to whom we took the match to the set. In it, Michal Řepík managed to escape and decided to win the second point with a precise shot.
More than six thousand spectators watched a really wild introduction. First, two Spartans appeared in front of the goal, after which Dominika Simona caught the home goalkeeper. Immediately on the other side, Jakub Kovář also intervened, whose right concrete covered Vojtěch Tomeček’s shot after the home team outnumbered two to one.
Both teams took turns in possession of the puck, but the home team had the upper hand in shooting. However, a rare hesitation on the part of Motor’s defense punished our team. The unguarded David Tomášek rushed into the offensive zone behind the puck and directed his backhand shot into the forward. Roman Horák. In the following minutes, both goalkeepers could rely on a responsible blocking defense.
After an unsuccessful home power play, the Spartans were close to the second goal. The referee crossed his arms after a home foul, but David Tomášek couldn’t finish between the concrete blocks. At the end of the period, our team was punished when Martinš Dzierkals brilliantly led a two-on-one conversion, during which he charged Jakub Valskýwhose shot from the first ended up behind Jakub Kovář.
We quickly forgot about the embarrassing first third! After only twelve seconds, Miroslav Forman drove in for the rebound and his shot in front of the goal arrived unguarded in the open net Vladimir Sobotka. Immediately Motor reached for an equaliser, but neither Vojtěch Tomeček’s shot nor Lukáš Doudara’s save ended in success.
Sparta could have been encouraged by the home exclusion, but the home team handled the weakening very well. To make matters worse, Jakub Kovář had to intervene against a dangerous break by the home team with a puncher. Immediately after, the roles were reversed with David Němeček’s penalty, but South Bohemia’s offensive was struggling just as much as ours.
In the middle of the third period, the Spartan captain was penalized by a four-minute penalty Roman Vrablík cannon from the blue. Shortly after Řepík’s return, Adam Polášek fouled indiscriminately, during whose penalty our defense was under pressure. However, when it was needed, the great Jakub Kovář intervened and shone especially against Vráblík’s shot from the blue line, which he knocked out with a catch.
At the beginning of the third part, he again signed a penalty on the Spartan side. The exclusion of David Vituch helped the home team, but all created shots were safely covered by Jakub Kovář. The experienced goalkeeper also saw well the attempts of Jan Štencel or Václav Karabáček. The battle continued without any chances until the start of the last ten minutes.
When there was a shot, it was the home team’s fault. However, only Toman’s unpleasant shot from the left circle, which flew onto Kovář’s right concrete, had any hope of a goal. The Spartan goalkeeper continued his great performance when, after Buchtele’s unpleasant run, Filip Přikryl finished on the other side from a turn, but his attempt from the middle ring ended up between Kovář’s concretes.
At the end of the third period, the Spartan line-up narrowed down to three attacks, but the slight pressure did not lead to the end. In the final seconds, after a lucky bounce, the puck went straight to the stick of David Němeček, who was already facing an empty goal, but Jakub Strnad’s stick stopped the puck.
Compared to the previous game against Karlovy Vary, our team started overtime with a puck on their hockey sticks, and although we let Motor go overboard, there was no shot. He immediately escaped Michal Repík and decided with a swing shot into the upper part of the goal.
