City councilor released by KI: “He is willing to cooperate” | Brussels
MolenbeekHicham Chakir, councilor in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean for the PS, was released on Friday by the Brussels chamber of indictments under conditions. His lawyer, Master Karim Sedad, reports this. Chakir had been in prison since September 22 on suspicion of passive bribery.
Master Sedad does not comment on exactly what the councilor will be placed ten last. “I can tell you that he cooperated with the investigation and that a lot of inaccuracies have appeared over the days,” it sounds.
Hicham Chakir was arrested two weeks ago. According to Bruzz, this happened when the man landed at Brussels Airport, upon his arrival after a trip abroad, but this is contradicted by his lawyer. “He was indeed on holiday abroad when he was contacted by the investigators as part of this investigation,” said Master Sedad. He made it clear that he was willing to cooperate and after his return to Belgium, he informed the investigators that he was in the country, later he was deprived of his freedom. But to be clear, he was not handcuffed at the airport.”
The municipal member was placed under arrest warrant by the investigating judge on September 22 and charged with bribery by a person exercising public office. On September 26, the council chamber decided to release him subject to conditions, but the public prosecutor’s office appealed against that decision. The indictment chamber confirmed the court’s decision on Friday.
