Prague is preparing a celebration of Czech space research
Thanks to the presidency of the European Union, the Czech Republic became the host of two important space events. EU Space week (ESW) took place at the beginning of October. November marks the fifth year of the traditional Czech Space Week (CSW), a festival full of cosmic events. The CzechInvest agency actively participates in both of these events.
ESW is one of the main European events of the space industry, which in the term 3.-6. 10. 2022 organized European Commission AND European Union Agency for the Space Programme under the auspices of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union in cooperation with Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic AND the capital Prague. The agency is also preparing for the standard CzechInvest. As part of the event, visitors were also given the opportunity to visit the unique Czech Space exhibition.
“Given that our long-term goal is the support of space activities, which is closely related to its promotion and visibility, I am very happy that, thanks to the Czech language, we were able to host an event such as the European Space Week,” stated Václav Koberadirector of the department of intelligent transport systems, space activities and research, development and innovation of the Ministry of Transport.
Czech Space Team presents the Czech Space exhibition
The most visible Czech footprint at ESW was the Czech Space exhibition, which was prepared by the CzechInvest agency and the Ministry of Transport. The exhibition aimed to present, among other things Czech space team, which has the ambition to bring together active players from the state sphere who want to jointly move space activities forward and actively advocate for their support and development. The main task of the Czech Space Team is to help with successful implementation of the National Space Plan ensuring a high level of awareness of the perspective of cosmic activities, especially of their importance and benefits for individuals and society as a whole. The aforementioned Czech Space Week is the main event organized by the Czech Space Team. The above-mentioned institutions – the Ministry of Transport and the CzechInvest agency – are behind the creation of the Czech Space Team.
“Supporting space activities is important to us not only because it is a very key infrastructure for the functioning of society, but also because the return on investment in this sector is up to tenfold. It is also a way to realistically increase the competitiveness of the Czech Republic. I am happy to acquire the CzechInvest resource, I perceive this opportunity and, together with the Ministry of Transport, we are increasingly involved in activities related to space,” he says Tereza Kubicovásquare of the CzechInvest agency for technological development.
And it is precisely the industrial partners who created the content of the Czech Space exhibition. The exhibition took the form of fifteen panels, on which visitors could see not only the achievements of the Czech Republic in space missions but also the space achievements of these companies.
European women in space
Another Czech footprint in the European Space Week was the event Space for 4 women – this time the event took place in a European concept. The main content was again a discussion of the obstacles that women will face if they decide to choose the space industry for their event. The number of women employed in the international space industry represents only approximately 20% of the workforce, which is roughly the same proportion as 30 years ago. In a round table discussion to promote the involvement of women in the space sector, they appeared as speakers, for example Pascale Ehrenfreundpresident of the International Astronautical Federation IAF, Luisella Giulicchipresident of the organization Women in Aerospace, or Petr KapounThe CEO and founder of TRL Space Systems, who is traditionally the moderator of this event, but this year exceptionally took on the role of a panelist and acted as an ambassador for greater involvement of women in space activities.
November marked by Czech Space Week
The company TRL Space Systems has become the general partner of Czech Space Week. Company founder and director Petr Kapoun has been actively involved in Czech Space Week since 2018.This year is marked by international cooperation, and it is crucial for us. Our mission is to form partnerships with our neighbors in Europe, but also on other continents. Together we can create bigger and more complex missions. We will present positive examples of such cooperation as part of our Space Together panel, which will take place as part of the Space2Business conference,” adds Petr Kapoun.
The main partners this year are three companies – ATC Space, Honeywell and OHB Czechspace, among the partners will be Advacam, CGI, Czech Space Alliance, Groundcom, Huld, Stratosyst, VZLÚ and Uneeqly. In addition to industrial companies, Czech Space Week will once again support the Brno Observatory and Planetarium and Planetum (Prague Planetarium).
