City of Zurich SVP municipal councils demand: Zurich should deliver ambulances to Ukraine
Zurich is to deliver ambulances to Ukraine
Demands of the SVP are rarely passed unanimously in the city parliament. The parliament has now even built the initiative to help the Ukrainian population.
The encounter with a Ukrainian must have been formative for the Zurich SVP councilor Samuel Balsiger. In any case, he was then convinced to help the population in the war-torn country with decommissioned Zurich ambulances. With a postulate, he asked the city council to examine how the city could buy as many used ambulances as possible and have them delivered to the British border via development organizations. The municipal council discussed the proposal on Wednesday evening.
Balsiger is clear: every car delivered can save dozens of lives. He emphasized that “we are all Democrats here”. In any case, everyone should be in favor of his proposal. It is unimaginable what “Putin and his Russian mafia state” are doing.
Mauch is skeptical
Mayor Corine Mauch is skeptical about the postulate, although the city council considers it to be a good thing. “We don’t have retired ambulances. Shall we look for them in the market now?” The city of Zurich is already doing a lot. 500,000 francs went to four aid organizations that have been working on site for a long time.
Co-signer Bernhard im Oberdorf (SVP) countered that old trams had also been delivered in the past. Should be about to switch to electric, including enough available ambulances. He demanded a sign for democracy.
More leeway
The solution brought a text change request from the SP. Now, not only ambulances are required, but basically emergency care and other medical services. Hannah Locher couldn’t resist a dig at SVP. They are pleased that the party is committed to refugees. It would be nice if the SVP would also do other business, for example when it comes to Afghans.
No one had any objection to the amended application. The postulate was passed unanimously.
