The most beautiful new Hyundai is available in Prague. The Ioniq 6 promises a range of over 600 kilometers
There are only an absolute minimum of them in Europe so far, but one can be seen until Sunday at the Designblok in the Gabriel Loci complex in Prague. We are talking about the Hyundai Ioniq 6, the latest electric car from the Korean automaker, which is based on an attractive and aerodynamic body. The Aktuálně.cz editors had the opportunity to get to know the car briefly.
You can order at the end of the year, when the prices will also be available, the first cars will not go to people until around January or February next year. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is still a very exclusive product, which also moves the Korean automaker into a segment where it has not yet been represented. Without discussion, it is already possible to call the new product a flagship of the brand, which has not offered any large limousine in Europe for a long time (to a large extent it is replaced by the subsidiary brand Genesis, which is still missing in the Czech Republic). Rather fully electric.
The Ioniq 6 is certainly no slouch, although the length of 4855 mm and the wheelbase extended to 2950 mm we would not recommend it in person. Due to the non-traditional location of the car in the exhibition, it was not entirely possible to get inside and try the space at the back for yourself, we have to take the assurance that the Ioniq 6 is perhaps a little better than the Ioniq 5, which arrived on the Czech market last year. What the novelty lacks is the sliding center console that the “five” has. In the “six”, the storage space between the front seats is fixed and all controls from the door panels have been moved to it – including lowering the windows.
The doors thus have a clean design that does not disturb anything except for the armrest. The dashboard consists of two connected twelve-inch screens, which will be part of the standard equipment. Cameras instead of mirrors, which the car on display has, will only be offered in the price of higher versions of equipment, we learn from the brand’s spokesperson David Pavlíček. He doesn’t know the exact prices yet, but he expects to be able to sell more than a dozen of these cars in the Czech Republic every year. It is certainly worth noting that the camera mirrors also include pixel-evoking blinkers.
After all, pixel headlights at the back are a hallmark of Hyundai Ioniq electric models, the “six” also has matrix diode headlights at the front, which always shine from a distance and can cover oncoming vehicles. Also worth mentioning is the car’s dark paint – one of twelve available – in the photos, which changes its shade from black to purple in the light. A lot of thought was given to aerodynamics, but the drag coefficient is only 0.21 for a sedan or a four-door coupe.
The designers took care, there are active aerodynamic flaps at the front, there is as little gap as possible between the wheel arches and the wheels, and at the back there is a “double” spoiler that can remotely resemble the Porsche 911. At the bottom of the bumper, there are also aerodynamic elements and headlights that refer to the Prophecy concept , from which the Ioniq 6 is based. Some might even call the electric car the prettiest Hyundai today.
Technically, the novelty is again based on E-GMP, which means 800V architecture and the possibility of charging up to 350 kW. The Ioniq 6 also has a V2L (vehicle-to-load) function, so that various electrical appliances can be plugged into the socket under the rear seats or, after connecting the adapter, into the charging sockets, including, for example, a grill or a television. The power supply is up to 3.6 kW.
There will be two versions of the battery to choose from: a smaller one with a usable capacity of 53 kWh and a larger one with 77.4 kWh. Similar to the Ioniq 5, both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive will be available. While the single electric motor at the back in combination with smaller batteries will be primarily about economy, consuming 13.9 kWh/100 km on 18-inch wheels, the four-wheeler with two electric motors with an output of 239 kW and a torque of 605 Nm will be about speed. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km in 5.1 seconds. The rear wheel, for a change with a larger battery, will then be the queen of range, traveling 614 km on a single charge. By the way, the battery charge status is shown by six illuminated squares in the front bumper.
The sensors are listed in the front for example in a dark bar, which does not stand out in combination with black paint, but represents another interesting design element when choosing white paint. Depending on the equipment, the Ioniq 6 can be equipped with blind spot camera monitoring, where the events behind the vehicle are projected onto the dashboard display when the driving direction is changed, a panoramic camera system, adaptive cruise control, an assistant for driving on the highway or a warning of passing cars when exiting the rear. There will also be the option to control the car while parking with the key and not sit in it.
An interesting novelty for cars is the Hyundai remote software update, which does not only apply to the multimedia system, but also, for example, to the control unit of electrical devices, batteries or elements of semi-autonomous driving. The Ioniq 6 will be produced in Asan, South Korea, while the Ioniq 5 will be produced at the plant in Ulsan. It is the electric crossover that will get a sports N version next year, there are no such versions planned for the sedan or four-door coupe yet.
