Already on Saturday Professional Muaythai League (PML). A big stand-up gala evening dedicated to Thai boxing will take place in Prague’s Královka hall. The organizers managed to set up matches that sell out all the places. Several weeks of careful preparation will take place in a few hours. Organizing this sports show is not a cheap affair. The PML 4 tournament will cost around 1.5 million crowns. “As they say, it’s nice in Prague, but also expensive,” smiled Tomáš Tadlanek, one of the organizers, during an interview with kaocko.cz.
PML will be in Prague for the first time, what do you expect from this event?
Prague is a very important city for us. I have an idea in my head that the Prague PML event will be the flagship of the organization. We are doing everything to make this our best event, but also the best stand-up and muay-thai event in recent years.
Your biggest draws on Saturday?
I was thinking about it a few days ago and thought there wasn’t a weak match on the main card. It sounds like a dime a dozen, but it’s true. I’m really looking forward to the pyramid up to 70 kilograms. Match Boy vs. Borák will be a massacre. Then Chess vs Hromek in MMA gloves, that will be a treat. New announced match Malina vs. Rooster, this is going to be a hell of a commercial for muay-thai. The main pre-match between Gregus and Spéth, where I personally think that Spéth is still a big bite for Gregus, because he is really an absolute world leader who has not fought us for a long time. But Greguš, on the other hand, can shock with great performances, so I’m super curious. I am really looking forward to the other wrestlers – Juříček, Rudolf, Brunclík Vítovec. These are names that are concepts in the posturing scene.
You have the fourth tournament, the first season, what year 2023 will there be more events, what have you found out, are you interested in Thai boxing?
We have one more tournament before the end of the year. Next year we will go in a similar spirit, but we are also preparing another huge project within the PML. But more on that later.
What is the biggest obstacle in organizing?
Honestly, the worst part is working with some of the wrestlers or trainers in our scene. You try to raise the attitude to a higher level, you provide wrestlers with really high-quality conditions, excellent promos and marketing, but they still speculate. First they confirm the match, then they cancel it, etc. This is a shame for them, for us, for the football scene. I want to compete in such dream matches that everyone would like to see. The problem is usually not in the money, but in the matches themselves, coaches and managers, who speculate too much for my taste. In your attitude, a possible loss will not hinder your career in any way. In stance, there is no need to calculate matches as in MMA. I often regret this.
And the exact opposite, what is well-being where there are no problems?
I enjoy composing matches, matchmaking, creating rankings and generally giving each weight division a story, the wrestlers’ journey to the title. In addition, we have an incredible team, where there are literally four people who work for twenty people. We are all muay-thai enthusiasts, we do it mainly for the sport. We do it with the heart as an incredible enthusiasm. I enjoy being in such a team.
The tournament in Prague will cost around 1.5 million crowns, what is the distribution of finances?
The most expensive is the starter ticket, which is around 30 percent of the budget. But even more. Of course the hall and production, this is expensive. In terms of production, we are moving the entire event up, we will be approaching, for example, the Enfusion tournament in Žilina. In general, everything is more expensive in Prague than in other cities. As they say, Prague is nice, but also expensive. (laughter)
