Voting Salzburg: DIALECT: What is a “Binggl”?
No matter where you travel, the local dialect and regional expressions make the holiday even more special. Isn’t it charming to be greeted by a friendly “Griass Di” in Salzburg, or to be asked “where is damma”?
TENNENGAU. Here in Tennengau, people speak “Salzburg dialect” and if you take it more precisely, actually “Tennengauer dialect”. As far as the language is concerned, the Salzburger Land IS very large and certain dialect words are still very different from district to district. So in Tennengau we talk about “Dirndl” and in Pinzgau about a “Mötzn” when we talk about a girl! But why is it like that? Today we would like to know from you what the dialect term “Binggl” means.
