New corona vaccine ready for use in Norway – Dagsavisen
This vaccine covers both the original Wuhan variant and the latest omicron variants. Now the Norwegian Institute of Public Health’s infection control director Geir Bukholm confirms Television 2 that the vaccine is approved and ready for use in Norway.
– The vaccines arrived in Norway last week, and distribution to the municipalities has started this week, says Bukholm.
However, the updated vaccines are only approved as booster doses. This means that only people taking their third or fourth dose will be offered Pfizer’s new updated vaccine.
Vaccine researcher Gunnveig Grødeland tells the TV channel that the updated vaccine increases the probability of getting protection against the virus variants that circulate in society today.
The case continues below the video
– The original Wuhan vaccine will be able to provide protection against serious disease, but here there may be reason to believe that you can get protection against mild disease – and that can be very important for the elderly, says Grødeland.
Only people over the age of 65, as well as people between the ages of 18 and 64 with an underlying risk of serious illness, are recommended to take a fourth dose. Healthy people under the age of 65 have little need for booster doses, according to both FHI and the European Infection Control Agency (ECDC).
