Soccer, Andreas Schjelderup | Schjelderup (18) is celebrated in Denmark. Was close to a transfer to a big club: – Sick cool
MELLERUD, SWEDEN (Nettavisen): Schjelderup has long been in the spotlight after he “finally” made the choice as a 16-year-old to follow his dream, namely to leave Norway and start his adventure abroad.
Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, the choice fell on the Danish club Nordsjælland. Schjelderup was noticed early on by “the whole of Europe” and was on training stays at almost all the big clubs on the continent. Nevertheless, the choice ultimately fell on the small Danish club just north of Copenhagen.
It is a choice the 18-year-old has not regretted.
– I hadn’t heard much about Nordsjælland before I went there, but as I visited the club and learned more about it, I fell more in love with the idea of delivering here and getting an opportunity early in the Superligaen, Schjelderup tells Nettavisen . .
He sits down for a long chat with Nettavisen at Håverud’s hotel between the Norwegian U18 national team’s match against Iceland and Sweden, during the recently concluded meeting in Swedish Mellerud.

– It was reliable
The Danish club is known for its work with young talents both in Africa and Scandinavia. They have developed and sold players for big summers in recent years. Well, it is a Norwegian who seems to be the next big sales object.
– That was guaranteed to be what they said, about being able to take a very short time, when I looked at other players who had taken the same steps. Therefore, it felt very natural to me, he explains further.

Norwegian Andreas (16) made his debut in the Super League in Denmark: – More than approved
He keeps his words. This season has been a dominant force for a Nordsjælland team that is fighting at the very top of the Danish Superliga.
On Monday evening, he showed once again what qualities he possesses when he scored new goals in the 3-1 victory at home against Randers. The last of the two was a magnificent score of the beautiful stroke and the Danish Viaplay commentators hailed the Norwegian as something very special after his display.
In the Danish media, his achievements are referred to as “excellent” and “world class”. He is also highlighted as the league’s biggest sales target. In other words, the interest is guaranteed to be no less after his latest performance.
He himself tells Nettavisen about a season which started a little before it really took off. Schelderup has reached the top scorer in the Superliga in Denmark.
– I got a little late in the season because of the illness in the run-up to the season. I lost quite a few kilos and felt like I started a little behind the others, but I have recovered to the shape I need to be in now. It has also gone very well on the pitch both for me and the team. We have been solid which allows me to perform.

He believes that much of the reason why Nordsjælland and he himself has convinced many this season is that they have been able to keep their team.
– Usually we spend a little time getting to know each other, but now the core of the squad has remained and know each other well. You saw the potential last year without us triggering it then, says Schjelderup who, like everyone else, has stated that North Zealand usually sells its best players every year.
– It’s sick what you do. This year I think the average age of the eleven is under 22. It is absolutely fantastic to be able to fight at the top of the Superliga with such a young squad.
Nettavisen visited Nordskjælland in December. Sports director Mikkel Hemmersam said this about the Norwegian:
Confirms bid from big club
The Bodø boy has become part of a very special club which aims to develop players for the biggest leagues in Europe. Schjelderup has known for a family feeling that develops community and individuals.
– There are very cool people in the club and on the board. They drive good talent development and manage to bring in good players who fit in. In addition, it is the academy in Ghana, where the best players come to North Zealand together with the best talents in Scandinavia. Well, they have also started an academy in Egypt. The total will be quite good.
Nevertheless, competition is tough if you want to move up and up. The model is about giving young players the chance and selling them on, but only a few go through the eye of the needle. Schjelderup seems to be one of those who is approaching the next step in his career.

Earlier in September, Danish BT reported that La Liga club Sevilla tried to sign the Norwegian this summer. This information is also on Nettavisen. The protagonist himself confirms that a transition was current.
– It is a confirmation that as a 16-year-old I made the right choice to go out. It’s crazy to have interest from such a big club. It wasn’t Sevilla this time, but you never know what can happen and where I can end up. Regardless, it’s really cool that such a big club that has won a lot and plays in Europe every year is interested in you, he replies.
– Is the Spanish top division a league you prefer?
– For me, La Liga is something I always think has been cool and something I want to play in, but whether it will be achieved or whether it will become something at all, I don’t know. It’s not really so much about the league, but more about the club and what plan they have for me, he explains.

A transfer did not materialize this summer since the club did not reach an agreement on an agreement that the Danish club was satisfied with, but according to what Nettavisen understands, Sevilla must still be very interested in the Norwegian. There are also several other major European clubs, including in England, and several of these have also specified their interest and begun the process of positioning themselves with a view to a transfer.
Back on the U18 national team
Around a year ago, Schjelderup got an opportunity in Leif Gunnar Smerud’s U21 squad. Since then, he has taken further steps in Danish football and distinguished himself as one of the league’s best players. At the same time, he has sent down to Norway’s U18 national team.
Nettavisen recently met Schjelderup between the two international matches against Iceland and Sweden out in the Swedish countryside.
– What is it like to be a dominant player in Denmark, but “only” be on the U18 national team?
– I can’t do much about it. It is Ståle who chooses the ones he thinks are the best and the same with the U21. I have to respect that they don’t see me as good enough for those teams and do my best at the level I’m told to play at.
– I myself feel that I am at a very high level in the Superliga and that I could perhaps have been with the U21s, but I just have to do my best.
Earlier in the autumn, national team manager Ståle Solbakken was in place when Nordsjælland beat FC Copenhagen. Schjelderup scored a goal in the 3-1 victory.
– I found out after the match. It is of course very cool that the A national team coach comes and watches. I don’t know why he was there. He can, he just wanted to see a nice top match in Denmark.
Schjelderup believes the future looks bright with the new generation of Norwegian footballers. Well, he must ensure that the national team will qualify for the championship in the years to come.
– It looks really good, to be completely honest. I can’t remember the last time we had so many good players in the different groups who also deliver at a high level both in the A-team and academies. I hope that I will make it to the A national team and get to participate in the championship, concludes the Norwegian football talent.
