Prague: Did a senior abuse his granddaughter? Other witnesses spoke in court
On Tuesday, October 4, the municipal court in Prague continued hearing the case of defendant František T., who is accused of sexually abusing his seven-year-old step-granddaughter. Other witnesses and forensic experts spoke before the court, and the proceedings will continue the next day. One of the key testimonies given today by the daughter of the defendant’s current partner was given behind closed doors. According to the indictment, she too should have had strange experiences with František in her childhood. When information about the alleged molestation of her granddaughters came to light, several strange situations that she and František experienced in their childhood were recalled. The witness explained that she wants to testify behind closed doors by saying that the whole situation is extremely unpleasant and she does not want her own family to be affected by the case being discussed.
According to the defendant František T., it is she who is behind the whole plan to damage it. František describes the whole case as an attack on him, according to him, the granddaughter was manipulated by her parents so that she would testify against him.According to him, it is supposed to be the revenge of his girlfriend’s daughter, who wants to harm him, due to the fact that he had not transferred the family home to her in the pastin which František and his girlfriend now live. “Mrs. Helena, who spoke here, told lies from start to finish. Once I get punched by a pedophile, I tell you it’s horrible“František later allowed himself to be heard at court.
After the testimony of Františka’s girlfriend’s daughter, the court experts Jiří Raboch and Karel Netík came to the scene, but their output was not at all serious: “We have found no evidence of sexual deviance in the defendant, we have found no forensically significant facts, and we are not proposing any protective measures”. They briefly noted that the defendant was negatively affected by the existing proceedings, but to a certain extent.
The other witnesses that the court summoned today were a couple who have been renting the lower floor of the family house in which František lives with his partner for the last six years. According to their testimony, they never witnessed any strange behavior of the defendant. “I don’t believe Mr. František’s accusation, I’ve known him for six years and I’ve never had such suspicions. Our children and his granddaughter often played together and I didn’t notice anything, he certainly didn’t do anything like that to my children”, said witness Vira in court.
House inheritance disputes
The testimony of the woman who sold the family home to him ten years ago as a real estate agent was the last to be heard in court. Her testimony helped the court to better understand the financial situation in František’s family: “Ten years ago, we were dealing with real estate matters together, he asked me if there was any way to avoid the house going to his own son, I told him he could adopt Helena and bequeath the house to her. He liked it, so I asked my acquaintances, lawyers, to prepare it. In the end, Františka did not use this option”.
At the time, František really thought about adopting his girlfriend’s daughter in order to bequeath her this house, but he later changed his mind. According to František, this should have upset Helena and contributed to the fact that she opposed him in this case. The witness Jana repeated at the court that she is Helena’s best friend and does not believe Františka’s version of the case. “Every story he told he could tweak and color to suit himself, so he built a little bit of castles in the air and then moved into them“, was heard during her interrogation. František objected to this again with words about a conspiracy and directed several insults at Helena: “Jshe’s a gold digger, she tried to get under my roof seven times. She’s a clever bitch. Helena ruined her life and now she’s trying to save it”.
The hearing of the case will continue on Wednesday, October 5, with additional witnesses and experts on the agenda. If it turns out that František was guilty of sexual abuse, he faces five to twelve years behind bars.
