“a big satisfaction” but regrets for Virgile Lacombe after the success in Montpellier
Zapping World Fifteen “I’ve come a long way”, Mathieu Bastareaud revels after his comeback
At the end of the fifth act of this 2022-2023 season, Stade Toulousain achieved the perfect blow this Sunday evening by winning on the lawn of Montpellier (19 to 17). While many predicted a heavy defeat for the five-time European champion, who had rested several executive players like Dupont, Jelonch or even Mauvaka and fielded a revamped team, nothing happened.
Very competitive, provided, with the desire to shine and do well, the fifteen players lined up on the match sheet did not disappoint and even scored points for the future. A good performance and a state of mind that the forwards coach, Virgile Lacombe, wanted to salute at the end of the meeting. The former hooker of the Reds and Blacks, however, underlined the black point of his team during the meeting: indiscipline.
It’s a big satisfaction to win here. We put a big commitment there, we were able to hang on until the end but there is the negative point of indiscipline with this yellow card (Elstadt, 35th) and this red (Meafou, 80th). That’s a lot in a single match… It may come because we put too much commitment into it. All the players on the field deserved to be there, we are happy with the state of mind of the group.
We had lacked commitment in Pau two weeks ago (26-16) but there, we went looking for it by showing the strength of the group. We have no intention of dropping a game, our goal is to be competitive every weekend. Chief ? It has value no matter what time of the season (laughs). We now have to manage to keep this ability to take points away from home and that will allow us to continue to stay in the top six.
