The participants were first greeted by the general manager of the home for the elderly, Ovidiu Popa, but also by the mayor of the resort town Slănic Moldova, Gheorghe Baciu. After which, while next to it, on the esplanade of the location, skewers and small traditional ones were put on the grill, and on the stand and a cauldron for traditional beans with sausages, the parents and grandparents in care were offered a rich and emotional program of songs performed by Taraful “Trandafir Moldovenesc” from Chisinau, which is currently active at the “Ion Talianu” Culture Center in Târgu Ocna. And the songs and poems in the program brought tears of tenderness to many of the listeners.
“People are a value regardless of their age – said Ovidiu Popa – and we don’t leave behind anyone unloved, unprotected, disrespected! The activity of our Center has learned to grow and we can hope that the quality of the services offered will increase, more attentive, more understanding, more humane. We hope to bring smiles, happiness and health to our peers and to them and the families who have trusted to bring them to us. We now have 42 beneficiaries of these supervision and medical care, occupational therapy, psychology and physical therapy services. We try to avoid social separation, the feeling of marginalization or abandonment specific to a certain age, even if they are now a bit further from their families”.
Mayor Gheorghe Baciu presented the beneficiaries of Constantin Senior Resort with the spa treatment book “Nestematele Slănicului. Healing mineral springs”, written by Corneliu Stoica, but also some copies from the exceptional monograph “Slănic Moldova. The Pearl of the Eastern Carpathians” by the same author.
“I propose to interact more often with the Constantin Senior Center – said Gheorghe Baciu. In such fields, one works with heart and soul, with love for one’s fellow man. It is not a small thing to have wisdom and understanding, because age also brings hardships. I have come to encourage you, to wish you good health and a pleasant party in this special setting here at Centrul Constantin Resort, but also in the resort town of Slănic Moldova, a wonderful place where you can grow old more pleasantly, but where you can also recover . and health status. Let’s move on as a family! And I promise to make, next year, a partnership with Centrul Constantin Resort, to take care of you in 2023, to hold at least two events here”.
The International Day of Older Persons has been established by the UN since 1990. This aims to increase the level of awareness and empathy regarding the quality of life of people who have reached the age of three. For the first time in history, in 2019 the number of people over 65 exceeded the number of children under four, according to Euromonitor International data. This reflects that the world’s population is aging, both due to the increase in life expectancy and the decrease in the birth rate.
