The origins and history of the Sacher cake
The Sacher Cake, as we have already said, is the symbol of Austrian cuisine and is absolutely a must for those who want to live a food and wine experience in the capital. It was made for the first time in July 1832 by the young sixteen-year-old Viennese pastry chef Franz Sacher on commission from the chancellor Klemens von Metternich, who asked him to prepare a cake for a guest, due to the absence of the official court pastry chef.
Legend has it that given the passion for chocolate, the young Franz used it to make the dessert, which was so successful that the chancellor was exulted from the very first bite.
Following its invention, it was first spread to Austria and then to the rest of the world. It must be said that it is practically impossible to trace the authentic recipe as it is protected by a trademark. And it is precisely its uniqueness that makes Sacher Torte one of the recipes with the greatest imitations in the world.
