Budapest is the 8th least sustainable destination in Europe, according to a new study.

Europe’s 10 least sustainable destinations
The worst-scoring city on our list is Rotterdam in the Netherlands, with a score of 1.48 out of 10. Rotterdam scores poorly due to its green energy efficiency (0.25%) and high air pollution (67 out of 100). The city’s carbon footprint is high (11.1 t CO2). One of the main reasons for Rotterdam’s air pollution is the continent’s largest port, which is located in the city. It was found to be the most polluting port in Europe, emitting 13.7 million tons of CO2 annually.
Athens, Greece is the second least safe destination for tourists, with a sustainability actuality of 1.64 out of 10. Athens has the worst green energy efficiency (0.18%) and high air pollution (69 out of 100). The city ranks very low in all low-impact transport (40.6%), most city dwellers travel by car.
In third place is Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, with 2.75 points out of 10. Air pollution in Belgrade (59 out of 100) and the number of legal environmentally friendly hotels (2.6%). In the last few years, Belgrade has become one of the most polluted cities in Europe. Factors related to this include how people heat their homes, with wood and coal both being common choices.
