Boli Bolingoli is back in Belgium: “Mechelen can play the Play-offs 1”
The left-back has opened up on his return home after his contrasting experiences abroad.
This summer, after the end of his loan to Ufa – stopped prematurely following the conflict in Ukraine – Boli Bolingoli (27) decided to leave Celtic, where he had no real future, to return to Belgium. The former Club Brugge player has signed for Mechelen. A choice he does not seem to regret.
“My priority was a transfer to a club where I could play,” he said in the columns of the newblad. “Whether in Belgium or elsewhere, it didn’t matter. Coming to Mechelen was purely sporting, the best choice. This club gave me confidence and above all the desire to play football. I wanted to play more matches again. I came here with a bit of a physical delay, but so far it’s going well. I feel better. I have more and more confidence on the pitch. I’m very happy to be here.”
“I hope we will get more points in the next games and then everything will be fine,” he continued. “I want to finish as high as possible with KV Mechelen. With the quality we have, we can even qualify for the Play-offs 1. You have to be ambitious. Ok, a lot of new players, a new coach, … All of this takes time. But once we are up and running, we might be able to do it. Mechelen also finished well last year, why not again this year?”
