Prague 5 has ten energy-saving measures – Cysnews
The Prague 5 District Council approved a plan to reduce energy consumption. According to councilor for finance Jan Kavalírek (TOP09), this is the first phase of the gradual reduction of energy costs.
“In the phase, it is a series of small short-term measures, which, however, bring welcome savings. For example, we had the heating systems in all administrative buildings cleaned and expect to reduce costs by up to 20%. We have also prepared the Energy Ten for employees, because the most immediate savings will bring a change in the behavior of each of us, which we know from our own households.” says councilor Jan Kavalírek.
The immediate measures that the office is implementing include, for example, temperature regulation in offices. Furthermore, a reduction in the heating of corridors and toilets, with the exception of waiting rooms, gradual replacement of small appliances with more energy-efficient ones or revision of light fixtures and a one-time replacement of old light bulbs with an economical LED variant.
“We will also reduce the heating of hot water in the office and significantly increase the heating of buildings by. In addition to short-term solutions, we are preparing long-term solutions. Long before the energy crisis, we started preparing energy management, which manages energy consumption, including central energy purchase for the office and the organization established by it. We have a pilot project for photovoltaics on the roof of primary schools, we want to have an analysis carried out on the design of a community photovoltaic power plant and further on the use of the EPC method to reduce the energy demand of office buildings” adds Jan Kavalírek.
The ten cost-saving measures for employees of the Prague 5 office look like this:
-
Extinguish
We should use lighting purposefully, i.e. use it only in those or their parts where lighting is needed. If you are not using the space or the equipment for a long time, please turn it off. Follow the password: The last one goes out.
-
Save the heat
Heating has the largest share of energy consumption in the building, so we should not overheat. In addition, each level of heating means an increase in consumption, and therefore costs, by approximately 6 percent. The ideal temperature for the perception of everyone differently, but a healthy and at the same time pleasant environment in the room is at 19-22 °C.
-
Ventilate sparingly
Ventilation during the heating season should be short but intense, so that it is enough to replace the entire volume of air, while not cooling objects and walls. For ventilation, it is better to turn off the heating and open the windows wide. This way it will air out quickly and the walls will stay warm. If you ventilate for a long time with a half-open window and at the same time have the heating on, you are wasting a lot.
-
Air condition or ventilate
If you run the air conditioner, close all the windows to change and freshen the air for your vacation. If you leave the window open while the air conditioner is running, the effect is zero and you are wasting money unnecessarily. Please choose either air conditioning or window.
-
Turn off appliances
Modern electrical appliances have a stand-by mode. It is advisable to be interested in the power consumption in this standby mode, because during the time that we use them, they consume a relatively large amount of energy in the annual volume. If possible, switch off the appliances completely with the main switch or pull them out of the socket.
-
Save water
Investigation is today’s priority. Therefore, try to perform hygiene and flushing sparingly. It is also important to check whether the toilet is leaking and whether the water taps are sealing well. Let’s also start treating water as raw materials and natural resources that must not be wasted.
-
Drive economically
Fuels are also an important source of energy. We should therefore also monitor consumption and try to optimize and reduce it. Try to drive as economically as possible, not only because of finances, but mainly because of the environment.
-
Cool with reason
The ideal temperature in the refrigerator is 7 °C, usually the weakest regulation level is sufficient (if you cannot set it directly). Place the refrigerator either far from the heat source or put insulation between it and the refrigerator. In addition, every Celsius in the surrounding environment means an increase in consumption of about 4 percent.
-
CLOSE THE DOOR
Prevent the transfer of warm, moist air from heated to less heated rooms and corridors. Keep the door closed to prevent heat penetration and save money.
-
Do not cover radiators
Never cover radiators or other heating elements with drapes, curtains, clothes, furniture or anything else. The better your radiator has a “view” of the rest of the room, the better and cheaper it will heat it for you. Don’t forget to vent the radiators regularly.
