25 years in prison for man (60) after murder of a tailor in Antwerp
An assize jury in Antwerp has found a man for the murder of a tailor in his business on the Brederodestraat. On November 6, 2019, he went to the tailor’s shop with a knife and inflicted 45 cuts and stab wounds on the victim. According to the defense, the perpetrator only wanted to fight with the victim, but the jury did not believe that. “The intention to kill was apparent from the choice of weapon, the intensity of the attack and the number of cuts and stab wounds,” the jury said.
The conflict between the two started a month and a half before the facts. The perpetrator and the victim sent abusive messages to each other. Afterwards, the defendant threatened that the victim would receive his deserved punishment. He confessed that he decided to go to the tailor shop an hour before the fact. He had a knife with him, was angry and a witness heard him tell the victim that he would destroy it. “So it’s unbelievable that he just wanted to fight,” said the jury.
Today the man knows his punishment. The prosecution has already demanded 27 years in prison. According to the Solicitor General, none have been defended. In the end, the man was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
