The Metropolitan Municipality and the Budapest History Museum are announcing tenders for the implementation of public art projects
Budapest Metropolitan Municipality adopted the following ‘Sculpture Concept’ this year. The purpose of the concept is to designate the proposed and expected directions for public spaces and works of art to be placed in public spaces for the period between 2022-2025.
The important mission of the concept is to create an urban environment in Budapest that is visually exciting, acceptable in scale, relevant in terms of content, involving many people and understandable, and which helps to strengthen the democratic nature of public use. The applicants of the tender are, among other things, already existing or in the process of forming, but little-known collaborations, community projects, and local initiatives are also waiting for narrowly publicized but significant, thought-provoking, or model-like stories, events, persons and they focus on communities.
THE Sculpture concept according to the 1st Budapest Public Contemporary Art Biennale, which will be held in 2023 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the unification of Pest, Buda and Óbuda, the basic objective of which is to present new art forms, different perspectives and the artistic content of the city in contrast to the current public exhibition practice. the possibilities of its use. The announcement is therefore appropriate for the capital’s 150th birthday, which provides an opportunity to both look back and outline future visions. According to the plans, the topics affected by the presented works can be given to the social dialogue and for the processing and evaluation of the raised topics from a scientific, artistic, urbanistic or other perspective system.
The aim of the competition is also to create projects and creations that provide actual and symbolic access to the city’s history and public spaces, make multifaceted connections to the city, opportunities for community thinking and experience possible and accessible in the widest possible circle. I would like to support the establishment of such temporary – or even long-term – collaborations that contribute to the organic development of the relationship between the local communities and the city.
The deadline for submitting the application is October 24, 2022, a total of HUF 20 million is available for the implementation of the winning applications, the maximum gross amount that can be requested per project is HUF 2 million, there is no application fee.
