The request of the Métropole de Toulouse has been heard. Depollution in sight
The general prosecutor’s office of the Paris Court of Appeal had already decided last April to destroy the seals. But only a part had been removed from the site in June. The explosion of the AZF factory on September 21, 2001 in Toulouse claimed the lives of 31 people and caused 22,000 victims. In 2019, the courts confirmed the final decision taken in 2017 at the end of the third trial: the sentencing of the company Grande Paroisse (a subsidiary of Total) to a maximum fine of 225,000 euros. The former director of the site, Serge Biechlin, had received a 15-month suspended prison sentence for manslaughter.
