Government council applies for contributions for the photo museum and the zoo
The Fotomuseum Winterthur Foundation and the Fotostiftung Schweiz together form the Fotozentrum Winterthur, an internationally recognized and well-networked competence center. With a crucial construction project, the photo museum will renovate and renovate its properties and add a new building. This is not only intended to bring the aging infrastructure up to date. With this part, the photo museum will also do justice to the changed requirements for a museum as a place of encounter and mediation.
The government council supports the project. The Fotomuseum is widely recognized as an institution for the presentation and discussion of photography and visual culture. The construction project allows for the implementation of long-overdue renovation measures, offers space for new exhibition formats, strengthens the Winterthur location and contributes to the canton of Zurich being acquired as a cultural and educational location. Since the requested contribution supports CHF 1 million, the decision of the government council must be approved by the cantonal council. The city of Winterthur is contributing CHF 3 million to the project.
Money for the Zurich Zoo
In addition, the government council is requesting that Zoo Zürich AG continue to receive an annual operating contribution in the years 2023 to 2027. The annual operating contribution is CHF 3.36 million plus any additional expenses for cost-related adjustments to the zoo staff’s wages. The zoo acts as an ambassador between humans, animals and nature. It appeals to broad sections of the population and is important far beyond Zurich. It is therefore appropriate that the canton of Zurich continues to co-finance the zoo.
