The Prague municipality closed the tent city for Ukrainian refugees in Troja on Tuesday. The reason is the falling temperatures. Refugees will continue to be cared for by the city’s Social Services Center Prague in the hostels in Florenc and Smíchov. Municipality spokesman Vít Hofman told ČTK. The 150-bed town opened in May and was supposed to be operational by September 30. A second small town was created later in Malešice, and in the summer both were merged into Troja. Roma refugees from Ukraine, who originally spent the night at the main station, found asylum in the tents.
“The original plan was to operate it until September 30, but in view of the coming autumn and the drop in temperature in recent days, it was decided to close it early. New arrivals are accommodated in spare rooms in Florence and Smíchov, which operate in the same mode, as was the case in Troy,” stated Hofman.
All the people from the town have already been taken by bus to the new accommodation. Refugees who lost their right to accommodation and humanitarian benefits were accommodated in Troja. In Florence, 100 beds are prepared for them in a dormitory. People who were waiting for check-in at the Regional Assistance Center for Help to Ukraine (KACPU) and for whom 20 beds are prepared in the dormitory in Smíchov also spent the night in the town.
According to the spokesman, the number of people staying in the Troj tent city has been decreasing for a long time. “For several weeks, it was used by dozens of people. Just before the tent city was closed, there were 13 people. At the moment, three people are staying in the accommodation facility in Florence, and 28 people are staying overnight before the next trip. In the ‘waiting room’ mode at the KACPU, 13 are staying persons,” stated Hofman.
KACPU has processed 109,116 Ukrainian refugees since the start of the war in February this year.
